So today, NYU's new whacked housing plan was put into effect, resulting in 800+ rising juniors having nowhere to live for next fall. This is a spectacular, majestic display of incompetence. For those of you who don't know, NYU did away with seniority for their housing lottery, in favor of giving rising sophomores priority over EVERYONE, followed by seniors and then juniors. Because, you know, we're all just lambs among wolves, and if the little freshmen-rising-sophomores were more than a 10 minute walk away from campus they would start to whine for mommy and shit themselves until spring break. This is a city school. If you need to take a ten minute busride (FREE) to campus every morning, resulting in you having to drag your raggedass self out of bed a little bit earlier every day, that's the breaks. The terrible, terrible, terrible breaks. You were close to campus and with fellow freshmen your first year here. Now its time to spread out.
In this situation, seniority JUST MAKES SENSE. Am I wrong? You give the best stuff to the people who have been here the longest. You climb the ladder and wait for the best which has yet to come.
The alterior motives of this plan are very clear: scare upperclassmen into leaving housing. Because you see, if they shower glitter and kisses onto sophomores and assfuck juniors and seniors (but still guaranteeing them housing) they can cut down on their dorm costs while still boasting "four-year guaranteed housing."
This new plan, coupled with the huge rising sophomore class and the massive amount of seniors returning to the housing system because of NYC's skyrocketing rents, has resulted in 800 of us displaced from housing. Now, we're guaranteed housing, but they have nowhere to put us. All the dorms are filled.
I have known this to happen at other schools, and it sucks all around.
I'll never understand why New York University refuses to apply the slightest shred of logic or sanity to any of its decision making. What the hell. I mean, these are supposed to be PROFESSIONALS, running this school.
I have decided that one of two things must be true. Either A), the people who run NYU really are dumb as posts and have absolfuckinglutely no idea what they're doing, or B), they make no attempt to hide their glaring alterior motives behind every bizzare decision they make, either because they think their student body is too stupid notice or they just don't care.
Last word: NYU is whack.
I am officially looking for an apartment.
