it's funny that i can describe my recent trip as my worst flying experience yet. in a way, it was, because the first flight both there and back was delayed. there was a lot of sitting on a runway and then circling over lake michigan on the way there ... a long wait on the runway on the way back, as the plane had an oil change.
i was supposed to have about an hour and a half layover each time in chicago. i always look forward to the layover in o'hare because i love that airport. it has many interesting things to see, and i really like to buy fresh candied pecans whenever i'm there. instead, i was rushing during each visit, and definitely did not have time to buy anything. in the end, that's a good thing, since i'm trying to save money and don't need any extra sugar in my diet. (plus i had the pleasure of enjoying kenmore freeze AND robeks with Beth while i was in Akron, which is enough deliciousness to keep me happy for quite a while.)
also, recently i have been out of the habit of checking in any luggage, but i decided to go ahead and check in my big bag on my way back to wausau. but of course, my luggage got "lost" for the first time ever. at the central wisconsin airport, they told me the next flight would be in around 4 p.m. and that i could return to look for my luggage then. but i was still catching up on sleep around 4, so i didn't go back. however, when i walked out of my apartment at about 6:45 p.m., my luggage was sitting near my door. i never even missed it, and i didn't have to carry it to and from the car and into my building. so that worked out well, and i'm amazed they delivered it to me so quickly.
although i experienced a bit of motion sickness on the smaller planes (especially the first one), i survived. and i never had to sit directly next to anyone. i always had a window seat (my favorite) and an empty seat (or two) next to me. also, on my final flight, i had my first opportunity (i think) to fly with a female pilot. very exciting. so, despite the delays and the lost luggage, it clearly was not a bad flying experience. i'm lucky, i guess.
more important than the flying, of course, was my visit. i wish it hadn't been such a short trip, but i really enjoyed spending time with Beth and part of my family for a couple of days. i can't wait to go back ...
