Opening Day 2010 is upon us. Will this summer be as tumultuous as the last three in Queens? Who knows for sure? All I know is that my Mets are playing with house money. No one wanted to give them credit last year, when despite ALL their troubles, they were only 6 games out in mid-July and relished the subjugation to the near basement by year's end.. Everything that could have gone wrong, went wrong towards the end of the season. However, I think the turning point was the Luis Castillo dropped ball in the Subway Series. That was CRUSHING. Anyway, on to 2010, here's my picks:
AL: Yankees, White Sox, Angels; WC: Rays
NL: Phillies, Cardinals, Rockies; WC: METS
World Series: Mets over Angels 4-2
Optimistic? Sure. Crazy? In all likelihood.
I think the NL is more wide open than people think. Too many are giving it to the Phils too easy. It could easily be the Braves or the Mets in the East, the Brewers in the Central or the Giants or Dodgers in the West.
Now, why my Mets you say. The key for them is 2,3 and 4 in the rotation...in particular Mike Pelfrey. If Pelf can win 15 and Maine can get about the same...it won't matter how bad Ollie is. (And who knows WHICH Ollie is going to show up.)
Mets will win between 85-90 games this year, though I won't be terribly disappointed with 82-84, and should be in the Wild Card hunt. The only reason I don't say the division is one reason: Roy Halliday.
Anyway...PLAY BALL!
