most european countries include the tip in the bill so i never 'tipped' over there. but in india? you tip for every little thing! i've never been to japan, but i assume a waiter there makes enough to live on so that tips aren't necessary.
i mean, in the us, with every tip, you're buying into the system, but on the other hand, i'm not going to punish the person serving my food; they didn't make the laws.

In Japan, it's more of a universal thought so, while you CAN tip, the servers' attitude is "I'm already being paid for this, you don't need to pay me more?"

that's kind of cool though. would be awesome if tipping really was an option rather than an expectation.

To be fair, though, when you do try to tip Japanese waitstaff, they will come out into the street, find you, and give your money back to you.
