Stolen from dine:

1. Leave me a comment saying anything random, like your favorite lyric to your current favorite song. Or your favorite kind of sandwich. Something random. Whatever you like.

2. I respond by asking you five personal questions so I can get to know you better.

3. You WILL update your LJ with the answers to the questions.

4. You will include this explanation and offer to ask someone else in the post.

5. When others comment asking to be asked, you will ask them five questions.

dine's questions:

1. what's your favourite cheese?

Of the kind you eat, I'd have to say roquefort blue cheese. Of the human kind, om.

2. describe the best hairdo you've ever had

At the time, I had really long hair and I got blonde highlights and then dyed those over blue and purple. It looked pretty awesome when it was first done but, surprisingly, it also looked good as it faded. Unfortunately, the only picture I had of the style was my Illinois state driver's license, which I had to forfeit when I applied for my New York state license.

3. do you have any book recs for me?

It's always hard for me to pick just a few. I guess out of the ones I've read this year, I would choose:

Peter by Kate Walker: A wonderful little slice of life about an Australian teenager who loves dirtbikes and boys, which doesn't always work out for him or his family.

Through It Came Bright Colors by Trebor Healy: Amazing. While taking his brother to chemo, a college student meets a nearly homeless young man who may or may not have cancer himself, herpes, or be insane. Their semi-one-sided love affair is very engrossing.

I Am Not Myself These Days by Josh Kilmer-Purcell: A memoir by a former drag queen about his relationship with a drug-addicted male prostitute.

Brendan Wolf by Brian Malloy: This is Malloy's second novel. I love his first (The Year of Ice) as well. This one reads like classic noir. The main character is a man with many faces to many people. It's an intense ride to see of he can keep all of them straight.

Boomsday by Christopher Buckley: A satire about the aging baby-boomers and politics. I'm a sucker for these.

Company by Max Barry: Another satire. This one about those Six Sigma-type management training programs. Where do they come up with those, really?

Citizen Vince by Jess Walter: A criminal in witness protection and running from a hit on him, starts wondering about politics as the 1980 Presidential election closes in.

4. would you rather spend a night in a haunted house, or alone in the wilderness with the wild animals?

A haunted house. Although ghosts and the like could be real, there are so many rumors about haunted houses that I doubt I'd actually be staying in one. In the wilderness, you know there's something out there!

5. what's the artist/CD you listen to most often when depressed?

I tend to not listen to music at all when I'm depressed. If I do, I usually fixate on one artist or song. Earlier this year, when I was a bit down, I listened to Champagne Supernova by Oasis for days on end.

So, I've been listening to Kelly Clarkson, Mandy Moore, and The Hush Sound a lot lately. And to think that just a year ago, I would turn off the radio the second Kelly Clarkson's music came on. What's up with that?

How about a poll?

Poll Etiquette Questions of the Day.
