The truth is, there is no truth.

The past couple of days have been crazy. Other than spending a lot of time watching House on DVD, I've been:

Thursday

All I remember about this day is being nervous as hell and my mom taking me to get a manicure. Oh, and I think I did some laundry and got my outfit ready for the next day.

Friday

I took the 8:01am train downtown, found the Pink Line with no problem, took it two stops up to Clinton, walked down the stairs, and there was work. How convenient! But I was like an hour early for my meeting, so I walked down the block to the Starbucks and went over my resume and stuff again. The building I work in is gorgeous. It’s an old, red-brick building with exposed beams inside and fake drop ceilings and fancy light fixtures. None of that crappy white drywall and florescent lights I’ve seen everywhere else on the planet. I’ll be working in a cubicle, but that’s only temporary because my boss’s boss said they’re remodeling our floor. Sweet! The three meetings all went very well. I also got the benefits package from the HR manager. Man, you could not dream of better benefits and perks than what this place has! Medical, dental, vision, life, disability, pet insurance, college tuition reimbursement, 401k with up to 6% matching, TRIP, two weeks of paid vacation immediately available, 10 sick days, 2 personal days, 11 paid holidays, 1 day of paid volunteer work if you choose, adoption assistance, flexible hours, casual dress code and concierge service! Anyway, I was on cloud nine when my mom picked me up at the train station. We went grocery shopping, which was kind of sad because that’ll be the last time I can go with her.

Saturday

Went to Target and spent tons of money on knee-high boots, new sheets, an iPod compatible alarm clock, socks, underwear, pajamas, iPod accessories, and an argyle sweater.

Sunday

Took my grandmother out to dinner for her 89th birthday, which was on Friday. We went to Lone Star Steakhouse. Thankfully, our waiter was vegetarian, so he was able to steer me in the right direction. The baked sweet potatoes are so good there. I just about died eating it. After dinner, we went back to our house for cake and coffee. Surprisingly, I didn’t have too much trouble dealing with my grandmother.

Monday

Went to the gym and then drove up to Boy’s Town in the city to help Tom and Jill move. It poured down rain the whole day. They were completely disorganized and there was no place to park that monstrosity my parents call an SUV. Oh, yeah, and their old building had an Otis elevator so ancient that Tom actually had to explain to me how to work it and their new building doesn’t have an elevator and they live on the 3rd floor, of course. By the time I drove home, I was wet, cold and exhausted. But I did get a nice dinner at Aladdin’s out of it.

Today

Went to the Brookfield Zoo with my mom. Saw the butterflies, perching birds, and giraffes. Also rode the carousel and the motor safari. Oh, yeah, and I bought like $100 worth of stuff with giraffes on it. Oops. I also got my confirmation letter and W-4 and I-9 and all the other paperwork for my job, which I filled out and mailed back. Now, my dad and I are looking at cars online. I found a 2003 Volkswagen Beetle that I really like, but my dad’s totally against it, which I don’t get because I’m paying for it! I also found two 2006 Ford Mustangs that I really like, but they’re probably too expensive, sigh.
