That time has come again...

The two year mark seems to be the magic moment for us. It's the time when we begin to sort through our junk, throw it into a box, toss it into a truck then head off into the sunset, in an attempt to find a living accommodation more interesting then the last one. (so we don't purposely pursue the interesting part. That has just kind of happened.)

Well, it’s the two year mark since moving to NZ, and yup! we are moving again. Our current landlord wants to move back in, so elsewhere we must go. The nice thing about this move is that we won’t be going very far… just across the bay.

But the interesting streak will continue. The house it’s self is in a location that we’ve never lived in before- a little over a block from the beach, and we’ll be sharing a large-ish house with our two friends S. and J. (both older than us, so no it won’t be one big party, though there will be plenty of fun, I am sure, to go around. *wink*). The whole situation will be a learning experience, as all four of us are quite different, and have varying interests. But as we already share a vehicle, food, work, and skills, sharing a house together seemed a good and practical idea.

So in just one week we’ll be leaving the little house in the valley. It’s been a good place for our first years in NZ. The location has allowed us to get familiar with our surroundings, and transition from country life to city life.  I will miss a few things:  the Sanctuary and Botanic Gardens won’t be “just around the corner”, and getting to the city center won’t be quite as convenient, and will require a little more pre-thought and close attention to the clock. The bush walks won’t be missed too much because our new place has easy access to a very awesome bush reserve. And of course, being so close to the beach just about makes up for all the rest.

The things that make me a little sad about leaving this place is: the little scraggly lemon tree that was here when we moved in is finally beginning to produce, but never will I taste the fruit of my labor  worrisome fretting in trying to keep it alive. The other thing I’ll really miss is the Bay tree. Fresh Bay in a yummy stew…there is nothing like it. I think I’ll also miss the daffodils that are currently blooming under the tree on the front hill. Nothing says “Spring is here!” then the sunshiny yellow of those funny little flowers.

Even though we’re not really ready to make another move, I think the change will be good for us. In many ways it’s been a bit of a hard winter, and a change of scenery is often good for the soul… helps get the creative and new thought juices flowing. So while I’m not particularly enjoying the packing and cleaning, and all the things one must remember when making a move, I am excited, and hopeful.

So here is to a goodbye, and also to a hello!

Btw: for those of you who may have been considering a possible visit  to our neck of the woods, please don’t be deterred by the housemates… there is still room for you. J
