Sure thing. In fact, I was kinda afraid I went out of my bounds a little with him, but I'll try to explain as best as I can.
Suigetsu's spent nearly a year and a half here. That's a lot of time any way you slice it. And as you're probably aware, there was another Sasuke-mun in the beginning (whom I've been pretty worried about since she just... disappeared, really O__oa).
Now, when Sasuke first arrived it was a short while before he encountered Itachi for the final time. He was completely unaware of the "true" story behind the massacre and was less privy to the idea that an entire village was responsible for his clan's demise. To be short, he was still a bitter little asshole, but Suigetsu was willing to put up with him, since he figured that, in the end, Sasuke knew what he was going to have to do.
And then, he meets his mother again. And this triggers a near-irreversible 180 in him. In the long run, Sasuke promises Mikoto that he'll no longer persue after vengeance and he officially disbands Team Hebi/Taka/Whatever. Kind of a pain in the ass, Suigetsu thinks. All that trouble for nothing. But like before, he trusts that Sasuke knows what he's doing. And maybe, juuust maybe, he actually begins to respect him, not just because he's his leader (or was), but also because he seems to genuinely know what he wants. Yeah, he's a softie and Suigetsu can poke fun at him all he wants, but it's not his business anymore, and he digs that.
That, and over time, Suigetsu developed a mommy crush soft spot for Mikoto, so any pact that Sasuke made with her was worth honoring.
And then, Sasuke disappears.
And doesn't come back. For a long time.
By which time, due to a letter from home, Suigetsu's been completely updated as to what happened with Team Whatever. He knows that Itachi's dead. He knows that Sasuke's sorta been cheated out of vengeance, and in the process, lost a sibling who he genuinely held dear. He knows that Sasuke plans to go after Konoha next.
And that just pisses him off.
He's aware that Sasuke doesn't remember anything from his first stay here, but regardless he feels like Sasuke's just blown everything off - his disbanding, his promise to his mother (<-- this especially ticks him off), everything. To Suigetsu, Sasuke just seems to grasping at strings now to satisfy a vendetta that, in Suigetsu's mind, was already made void. And to add on to that, nobody knows for certain if what Madara told him is 100% true or not, so basically Team Whatever is operating on the whims of what could be a big fat hoax. But whatever Sasuke's doing, he's dragging Suigetsu and everyone else with him, rather unaware of what lies ahead.
To make it simple: In Suigetsu's mind, Sasuke no longer knows what he's doing, and he's compromised too much for it. And because of that, Suigetsu's lost nearly all respect for him.
As for the whole "monster" thing... what Suigetsu said regarding "think for yourself/don't act on impulse like an idiot" was pretty true. (And he's probably a hypocrite for saying it, but he's had Last Stop to keep him tied down, so in his head it's all the same). The whole monster speech was admittedly an exaggeration on his part. 'Cause deep down, he's still a jackass. And watching little kids squirm is fun. >D
ajshaskd Sorry for the essay. But hopefully this clears a few things up? Getting a good grasp on a character though is a neverending process, and even after all this time I still feel like I could do better with him. So thank you very kindly for bringing this up~~ ♥
Mind if I try to prompt a discussion between them about this at some point? It'd help me if Sasuke actually knew about it. <333 Thanks for the detailed explanation!
