This past week has been absolutely crazy, and it's not over yet. I had a midterm nearly every day from last Tuesday to this Tuesday, sprinkled with some .. wonderful lab reports and a job interview. This week was literally worse than my finals will be - at least my exams are much more spaced out for December!

But I got good news for the job interview - being that I got the job! Yey! The pay is paltry but it's still in Halifax so I'll be mooching off at home, and I still have a ridiculous amount of cash from the summer anyway. I'll be working as a Lab Tech with a research team studying the relationship between cholinesterase inhibitors and Alzheimer's disease. It's leaning heavily on the Neuroscience side, which is slightly unfortunate since this is only my first year in Neuro (but I love it!!) and I don't know that much. The guy who is running the lab is a Neurobiologist though, they're a rare and elusive species of scientist - but I may end up being one in the future :) (I'm double majoring in Bio and Neuro, so this is like perfect for me!).

I'm not too sure what my duties will be yet, the term starts in January, but from the interview it sounds like they're going to help me define a 3-month research project, teach me a couple of techniques, hand me a HUMAN BRAIN OR TWO, and let me roam free.

I GET TO HEAD A RESEARCH PROJECT HOLY CRAP. I want a publication! I WANT A PUBLICATION!!!

.. and I can't tell you how excited I am at the prospect of cutting up BRAAIINNNSS.
*ZOMBIFIED*

He also mentioned animal models which I also may be interested in. Except that's totally going to involve sacrificing rats and I'll probably cry. We were taught the steps involved in retrieving the brains from the little guys in one of our classes - I'll spare you the details but it involves something called a 'rat guillotine' and a 'skull crusher'. No joke.

Hehe rat guillotine.
