When Hot Water Feels Cold

May 05, 2008 00:03

I just rolled in from a 300 mile round trip journey to Oberlin, Ohio to strike the rigging I installed for OCIRCUS. Since I got my bike back from the shop yesterday, I decided to chance the weather and make today's trip on it.

It was a gloriously beautiful day. There was a New Orleans style brass jazz band playing on the bandstand in the middle of Tappan Square park, and their skills were excellent and their energy absolutely delightful. None of them could have been over 22 years old. I even tossed a frisbee with them for a bit after their concert. I hear a lot of live music, but rarely this kind, and I do love it when this type of music is played with the energy and vibrancy which these guys brought to it.

I met up with a friend and took her for a ride on the bike in the country surrounding Oberlin, and then I treated her to a sushi dinner (yum!!) and she treated me to ice cream cones before we went to the show.

The circus was lots of fun, and they did a really good job on it. The aerialist for whose act I rigged is a freshman, and though she has not built up tremendous strength and cannot hold the positions for long, she already has some great material and puts on a solid performance.

The ride home started out nicely enough, but boy am I glad I threw my heavy fleece scarf in the saddlebag when I set out early this afternoon. The last forty or fifty miles were pretty brutal and I could not wait to get into a hot shower as soon as I was home. I ran the water and then stripped out of my clothes in just about record time. When I stepped into the tub, the stream of water must have been at about 103-104 degrees fahrenheit, but it felt cold on my hands and on my legs from just above the ankles to just above the knees. Weird!! My hands feel normal now as I lie in bed typing away, but my kneecaps still feel cold.

Kudos and congratulations to A&K on the delivery of twins! Yay!!
