Keith is kind of OCD when it comes to locking our apartment door. I, on the other hand, never lock doors until it is time for me to go to bed. I make fun of him for his obsessiveness. I reason that we live in a really nice (gated) complex and that we're poor, so what the hell could anyone want from our apartment?
So after work today I ran some errands, came home to drop stuff off, then left the apartment to go get our mail. I was gone for like ... ehh.. 2 minutes, tops. When I round the corner from the stairs I see my apartment door is open. wtf. I finish turning the corner and see that the little old lady from upstairs is about start bringing her groceries into my apartment and she has her key in my door.
ummm.... I don't do well with awkward moments. I try saying, "you're one more up" to her as I'm walking towards her. She looks at me like I'm crazy and bends down to pick up her groceries and head in the door. By this time I'm at the door, so I walk in and she looks at me totally lost. She FINALLY figures out what's going on and says 'oh.. i was wondering why my key wouldn't work"... Which totally baffles me because 1. I left it unlocked and 2. she obviously opened the door.
Then she just kind of leaves it at that. Somehow I felt like the idiot when I shut the door and she had gone upstairs.
Moral of the story: I won't make fun of Keith for locking the door all the time anymore. You never know when a crazy old lady might think it's her place.
