At the very most northern point of Cape Breton lies a small town of 30 bitter senior citizens; two of which are my grandparents. Nanny and grampy Hussey. yes, Hussey.
Cape North , in the "off season" is a place of hibernation and excruciating boredom, a place where residents find excitement on their porches watching and commenting on things passing such as dirty fish trucks, dirty hay trucks and dirty dirt trucks.. It's a place where one's best friend is a deck of cards, unless of course it's sunday (in which case your former best friend is now an evil piece of death that could send you through all nine circles of hell with just one game of crazy eights)... it's also the place that my family drives 6 hours to visit every goddamn Easter.
We had arrived in cape north and after 24 hours of looking at each other, my brother (21) and I (not 21) welcomed the idea of going to church on Easter sunday. We passed the time making fun of the minister, who could only seem to speak when others were trying to cough, sneeze, cry, blow their nose or adjust themselves in their squeeky pews.. As i searched for further sources of entertainment, i came upon the new testament, reading through it i became more and more grateful for not being born with two x chromosomes... if men were held to the moral standards of women dictated by the bible i'm sure we would have been stoned into extinction long ago.
I feel that this apparent higher level of morality,partially still expected of women today is one reason for the inequality of gender and the ultimate downfall of religious belief. Because of women's predetermined role as the "final gatekeepers of sex", a responsibility has thus been granted to that specific gender and because of this delegation, men have been exempt from similar responsibilities..for this reason, a man is "the man" in situations identical to those in which a woman is a skank.
...today, as it becomes realized that women possess their own sexual desires, the former responsibility of said gender is rightfully forgotten and placed moreso on contraception than anything else. In this, both genders have become equal but at a lower level..one in which women have fallen to the "inferior" moral beliefs of men. It's here that one can easily recognize the religious definition of morality as complete and utter bullshit...and for this reason, religion is on it's way down the poop chute.
because science preaches equality.
