Stuff what I use on my face and in my hair and on my skin

Aug 15, 2010 20:39

So, today while doing the weekly grocery shop at Sainsbury's, I paused (as I often do) in the skincare/haircare/etceteracare aisle, pondered a moment and wondered exactly what it is I spend my hard-earned pounds on. Which led to the following "Stuff what I use on my face and in my hair and on my skin" post. (Perhaps I ought to have named it "Stuff what I - deliberately - use on my face and in my hair and on my skin" post, because, as any lady living in London might tell you, things and/or stuff inadvertently gets in there. Don't ask.)

Anyhoo, if you feel so inclined, click after the cut to have a gander.

Nivea Sun Spray

But I get the 30+ version because I'm so freaking fair. I can't believe I got sunburnt during an English spring. But there ya go.

Nivea Extra Rich Moisturising Lotion, for Dry Skin

My Nan uses this and every time I put it on, I feel like it's summertime & I've just come back from the beach. Plus, it's awesome. And cheap.

Neutrogena Visibly Clear Blackhead Eliminating Daily Scrub

Depending on how much I can be stuffed, I use this before I go to bed to wash my face. It's not terribly cheap, but I love how it makes my skin feel. When I'm feeling lazy - or if it's been a big night - I use cleansing wipes instead (see below).

Nivea Visage Gentle Cleansing Wipes for Dry-Sensitive Skin

Apparently I heart Nivea & buy lots of their stuff. These smell really nice, get rid of every single bit of dirt & makeup and never make me break out in spots. Plus, it never feels like much of an effort to get rid of all that London grit before crashing into bed at night with these. Have to love that.

Vaseline Lip Therapy with Rose & Almond Oil, in Rosy Lips

Cheap as chips, gives you a bit of colour (but not too much). The only thing that could make this product better would be if they'd make it in a roll-on package (like lipstick or lipgloss) so you don't get sticky fingers. It's important not to have sticky fingers in London, especially when it comes to lip balm. Seriously, I'm not anal when it comes to cleanliness, but London is freaking dirty, so if I want to apply lipbalm, I don't actually want my fingers touching it and then my mouth. Just sayin'.

Nivea Pearl Beauty Deodorant

This is what I keep in my drawer at work; it smells nice. Because it's a spray I can manage a quick freshen up between classes (very, very important), and it lasts pretty much all day (not all day, but almost). And it doesn't cost a fortune. Awesomesauce.

Impulse Into Glamour Body Fragrance

Because part of me is still a twelve-year-old girl. This stuff never lasts long enough. I only buy it because it's cheap (you can usually get it for a pound, or if you're lucky two for a pound). It reminds me of Year 7, it smells scrummy, so I figure it's worth it every now and again. But, neverevereverever when I'm working. Then I need the hard-core, hard duty stuff (see above).

The Body Shop Moroccan Rose Body Spray

Because it was a present & it smells lovely & it is a fairly good (read: cheap) substitute for the Stella McCartney fragrance which I'm too poor to purchase at the moment (bought that in my first year of teaching - love that fragrance) In the meantime, this will do nicely.

Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Moisturising Lip Balm

This is what I keep in my school pencil-case, it's clear so I can apply it whenever I like (even in the middle of class if need be) and it tastes like chocolate, need I say more? (Oh wait, it's also cheap).

Pantene Curl Defining Mousse

It's the only thing (post-hair washing) that makes my curls look good, and I'm yet to find it here in the UK. Sad face. If you know where I can get it (cheap), pls to be telling me, kthx?

Covergirl Lashblast Mascara (in brown)

This is my usual mascara, but I baulk at paying what it costs in pounds over here, so since then I've been forced to use Maybelline Great Lash Mascara, which is much cheaper but nowhere near as good...

...and is worn by every freaking nine-year-old over here (they're early starters in the British Isles).

Tigi Curls Rock Shampoo, Conditioner

This was recommended to me by my curly-haired cousin, again, I can't afford what it costs over here, which is criminal considering how good it makes my hair look. Sigh.

Wow. That's a freaking huge list of stuff. I consider myself vaguely low maintenance, so I'd hate to see how big that list would be if I actually had more money & time, and if I was inclined to take care of myself better.

Urm, so that's it. I could probably (and possibly will one day) do a whole different post on fragrances, but will leave that for another time, another day.

Feel free to share any of your favourites.
