Nature is complete because it does not serve itself.

The Sage places himself after and finds himself before,
Ignores his desire and finds himself content.

He is complete because he does not serve himself.

~Tao Te ChingThe past two weeks has been slow, mission-wise, and therefore afforded me time to catch up a little on my reading. I had ( Read more... )

If he doesn't serve himself, who fucking does?

Shit, I just came back from an undercover gig a couple'a days ago. Shit is annoying.

That is not exactly what it means, when it says that the Sage does not serve himself. He certainly looks after himself, but the point is that he has a greater good, a higher purpose than just earthly needs.

I have not been on a mission in a while. I am quite looking forward to getting back out in the field.

Without attending to one's Earthly Needs, one can't acquire toilet paper to wipe one's Earthly Ass. I wouldn't feel like communing with my higher purpose if I had a shitty ass.

Cool, I guess. Best of luck, man! Don't die.

You are missing the point deliberately, I think. It is not that he forsakes earthly needs for the sake of his higher purpose, but that the earthly needs are not as important. They certainly still get taken care of.

Tch. Certainly not.

What's his higher purpose?

What kinda mission is it? Mine was a nun-hooker prostitution ring.

He is the example for the rest of humanity. He gains pleasure only in the service of others; the more he does for others, the more content he himself is. He serves mankind by showing them The Way, which is the main precept of Taoism.

I am not at liberty to say. Except that it is deep infiltration.

Are you a Taoist?

Right right, government hush hush shit. How many guys?

I am--well, was a scholar. I am probably too disillusioned to truly be a Taoist, but the philosophy is interesting.

On their side? Intel says twelve, so probably at least fifteen.

Guess so.

Pffft. Easy shit. You'll be in and out. Why the undercover?

If only it was so simple. This is only a small sect, however, and my superiors want information. Therefore, I cannot simply kill them all, or there is the chance that they could wipe their harddrives as soon as they catch wind that something has gone wrong. I need to get the information and get out. Force is only permitted under extreme circumstances.

Oh. PI kinda stuff. Funny old world.

Like I said. Good luck, don't die.

More like terrorist 'kinda stuff,' only in reverse, actually.

Thank you for the sentiment, but I do not need luck.
