The Second Lieutenant is the weak link. Not only is he the most empathetic of the Colonel's entourage, he's also been hit hard recently. He could use a little distraction, hm? And if he joins in, it won't be nearly as difficult to convince the Lieutenant and the Colonel, especially if Maes gets involved to look after the kids.

I'm thinking ... ambush a la spicy curry.
