A belligerent young fool

Selfishness is good. Generally speaking. I would prefer that everyone consider themselves before thinking of everyone else. As if washing hands could be considered the ultimate moral act. Doing that which first benefits you, and as a byproduct, benefits others around you.

If one washes their hands with the initial intent to preserve the fullness of their health, and the secondary intent to contribute to the cessation of the spread of disease, then their intent is accurate to what I believe morality to be. If I choose not to wash my hands, I risk not only my own health, but hours of precious medical attention that could otherwise be devoted to a person in a less self-inflicted, or preventable situation. Beyond that, I risk putting the people I come in contact with in that position.

I would prefer that everyone take care of themselves first (wash their hands) and then, usually as a byproduct, help their fellow man, that none should have to take care of another out of necessity, but out of the goodness innate in most humans.

Please don't misunderstand. I mean the second part as much as I mean the first. That one should take care of oneself, and then others. If the second part is forgotten the whole idea falls apart.
