Happy 2008, everyone! This being my first post, I'll just do a brief introduction- I'm 22, recent college grad, violinist and teacher, and soon to be employed at the restaurant Quaker Steak and Lube, which definitely does NOT offer much in the way of health food fare. As for my diet, I usually make an effort to keep it "balanced," but in truth, I've only ever done guess work, taking food groups into account but never calories, carbs, proteins, vitamins, minerals, etc. I have to admit that I also do a lot of mindless munching, and as a result I have become increasingly overweight, beginning in my early teen years. I'm at the point where I'm afraid that if this downward spiral continues I'll soon be facing obesity, chronic back and joint pain, heart disease, etc.

I'm here because I really want to commit to a lifestyle shift that includes changing my diet so that I am consuming the healthiest foods possible- but I need tons of information in order to be able to do so! If anyone has any good sources, online or in print, to recommend so that I can plan to make this shift, please let me know! I'd also like to hear peoples' success stories. In the meantime, I'll be browsing other posts for information!

Many thanks to everyone! Looking forward to hearing from you!
