Private - LA LA LA IGNORING THE SUBJECTvictimofnooneJune 16 2010, 06:53:15 UTC
Normally I would agree and go off about how the Admiral's a jerk who loves seeing us suffer? But he actually did something nice for me not that long ago, so.. I feel like I owe him a couple months of gratitude or whatever.

All right, okay. Sure. ... That was nice of him.
I mean, there's no real rush, I can give you some time if you need to... I don't know, get yourself together, or, um. But if not, y'know what they say. No time like the present! Heh.

[Hayley's already there, sprawled across a chair, feet bouncing over one of the arms. Seeing Ned, her enthusiasm seems to lessen just a hint, but she still offers him a half-forced, little smile. Then she rolls out of the chair to stand and begins walking toward him, rubbing the back of her neck nervously.] "You wanted to walk, right?"
[Ned reaches up to rub his own neck, then realizes halfway through the motion that she's doing the same thing, and stops himself. Instead, he sticks his hand in his pockets.]
Yeah, that'd be good. I actually, I brought Digby.
[At the sound of his name, the dog pokes his head around the door, a sock hanging out of his mouth]
Is that okay? I can always take him back to the room, but I thought he could use the fresh air, too.
"That's totally fine." [Hayley smiles at the dog, instantly warming up a hint. She crouches to try to say hello and pet him before standing again. It's not that Hayley hates Ned, but he does seem kind of clueless and she's not really sure what he can do for her that Pavel couldn't. Wichita was.. well, everything she expected her second warden to be, in all the worst ways. Now that they had been separated, though, the girl is beginning to acknowledge that Wichita did actually care a little bit. Meanwhile, Ned's the fresh meat and Hayley's tired of dealing with new people.
It's moments like this when she misses Harvey the most. At the thought, her smile fades again and she reaches her hand into her pocket to feel Harvey's coin as a token of reassurance. Then she offers Ned an obviously forced smile beneath a now obviously somber mood and begins to slowly meander forward to begin their walk.] "Did you have any place in mind?"
I heard the CES is doing the cliffs of Dover today. I'd like to check it out, if you're interested.
[Ned moves forward, walking along side her. He's quieter than usual - he doesn't exactly know what to say, and it's a sign of how importantly he's taking this, how much he wants to be a good warden to Haley, that he's managed to restrain his word-vomit. Digby walks between them, brushing occasionally against Haley, careful to avoid his owner from long years of practice. Moving up the stairs, Ned steeled his resolve and broached the topic]
I've read your file. I was... surprised. [His voice isn't unkind; he's merely stating a fact]
Er... this is Spam. <3victimofnooneJune 22 2010, 09:32:44 UTC
"Yeah, sure."
[Hayley notices Digby brushing up against her but never Ned and idly wonders about it, but the thought is interrupted by his declaration. She freezes when he says it, torn between yelling at him and retorting with sarcasm, but she promised herself she would try and so she pauses only a moment before she continues walking alongside of him. Her gaze is on the ground now and she takes a bit before responding, the kind of silence where you might wonder if they heard you if there hadn't been any physical reaction at all.]
"So now what?" [She figures it should be pretty obvious why she doesn't trust people and Ned's hardly an exception.]
[Spam] - YES IT IS INDEEDeasy_aspieJune 26 2010, 02:33:26 UTC
[Ned continues walking, hands in his pockets] I guess... I guess it made me understand why, ah. You are the way you are. And while I cannot - do not - condone what you did, I can see why you thought it necessary. I just wanted you to know that.
And that, well. I know you won't trust me, I get why that's, er. Hard, you know, I understand that, I just - I wanted you to know that you can come to me. About anything, regardless of how bad it is. I'm... I'm on your side, my loyalty's to you, first and foremost. And I just thought you should know that.
[As if backing up Ned's comment, Digby licks Haley's hand lightly. By this time, they've come to the CES entrance, and Ned holds the door for her, hunched uncomfortably but looking earnest as ever.]

What'd he do for you?
'Suffer'? It's not that bad... is it?

He just let me change rooms. It's not a big deal.

We should... probably, y'know. Meet. In person. To talk about stuff. Is it okay if I drop by? I thought we could go for a walk.
Reply
Sure, whatever. Did you mean like, now?

Now is fine, Ned.

I'll be by in a minute.

I'll meet you in the level 3 common room, okay?

All right, that sounds good. See you soon!
[A few moments later, Ned shows up at the level 3 common room, a file in his hand, looking nervous but DETERMINED.]
