WEAKNESSES: First of, his obsession stalker qualities devotion to Romeo Silvio. It’s bound to distract him one way or another, and if Romeo’s in the same room or within a 100 feet distance, Julian will immediately head over to him and promptly drop whatever he’s doing and will attempt to handle’s Romeo’s needs first. (Keyword: attempt)
He may not show it, but he’s really possessive and a narcissist at times, along with being blunt and cold: these traits are more likely to come out when he’s drunk and when he wakes up - he has low blood pressure, so he’s mean spirited in the morning and likely to bite your head off if you do wake him up.
Has a bad sense of direction also, making it hard for him to find an area or a place - which is one of the reasons on why he follows Romeo like a lost puppy.
STRENGTHS: An expert shot, Julian has been trained to handle guns and use guns since childhood, especially pistols; he can accurately shoot a target from a considerable distance and not even nick them if he wants to.
He is unpredictable and steadfast since both of these traits were instilled on him when he was growing up under the care of his family - he’s not likely to switch sides last minute and will remain loyal to his family and sometimes allies. Also knows some underhanded tricks he learned while growing up, so he can get out of a pinch if he’s in trouble and while he doesn’t look like it (on more than several occasions), Julian actually has brains - he’s well versed in Shakespeare and knows a handful of languages under his belt. (While not fluent, he knows basic Japanese to get him by.) It’s just that he figures until his father dies or officially passes the Boss title to him, he can act like a brat a little longer.
WEAPON OF CHOICE: Browning M1922 .32mm and a Beretta Px4 Storm Pistol .9mm Pistols; Semi-Automatic Pistols (Pierce Damage) - only uses one pistol during fights.
PERSONA: March Hare
PERSONA ABILITIES: Sukukaja, Bash, Bewilder
ARCANA: The Sun
FACTION: Neutral; is with the Mafia and wherever Romeo goes.
PERSONALITY: Julian can be described as a rather carefree individual - he has no tack when it comes to public displays of affection, especially to Romeo, and carries throughout his day with little thought on what will happen in the next moment. While he acts like an overgrown kid (that is, touching everything in sight and wondering how this and this and so and so works) and comes off as a little eccentric because he’s in a new environment, Julian actually pays attention to the events around him. No seriously, he does. Even if he acts like a lovesick fool and gets lost most of the time, he keeps up with the news and constantly watches people like a skittish rabbit - being in the mafia, you learn not to blindly trust someone during the first meeting.
He’s willing to adapt and learn if the opportunity presents itself, though the language barrier and cultural differences will end up discouraging him at times - he’s not that determined to keep up with anything unless it’s for his or his family’s benefits, so he picks his battles and friends carefully.
BACKGROUND: Julian was born in Amsterdam, North Holland to the Courtlandt Mafia. How they became a mafia, no one knows since they are Dutch-based and the speculations ranged from a run away family from Italy to the first boss having an ambition to start Amsterdam's first organized crime family. Whichever the story, Julian was born and was pronounced the legal family heir. He was the only child: his mother has a weak immune system, and the family doctors advised against her on having any more children. With that said, all attention was turned to the newest member, and the official, heir to the family.
His life wasn't exactly normal in Amsterdam - his father put him on constant surveillance, despite the fact they were the only crime syndicate in the area in such a size. His mother on the other hand, constantly spoiled him to the point where he could get anything by a simple whim: to put it short, his life was caged and very, very boring.
Everything changed when his father of all people decided they were missing something: something vital, something important.
...it turned out his father wanted a rival; to be more precise, a rival mafia that could keep them on their toes and produce some competition. Sometimes Julian would wonder if his father just got drunk and watched too many movies about American mobs.
It took awhile - a year or so before the elder members of the group, and especially grandpapa, to agree on such a dangerous decision. They argued back and forth, each side with its own valid points - Julian never did understood what was so special about having a ‘rival’, so he just shrugged it off and ignored it until a decision was made.
His father won in the end - his grandpapa knew what the younger generation thought of their family, and enough to know that his son was right. It was swift; no sooner had his father announced it, Julian simply blinked and just saw the Netherlands passed by him like a kaleidoscope as they were flying over head Holland to their new home - he considers this the weirdest present someone could have given to a six year old.
Whichever, he ended up in Naples, Italy - why for the love of god, he had no clue - on the same day when some kind of celebration was taking place and Julian was strolling with his bodyguards to get acquainted with their new home. As soon as they weren’t paying attention (which was easy, because most of them only knew a few Italian phrases and the crowds were huge) Julian ran to explore the city by himself.
Only to get himself lost within ten minutes.
He started to panic and ran wildly about, trying to figure out where the familiar people in black suits with tacky yellow ties were, only to run around the corner and collided into someone with full force.
And that’s how he met Romeo. He didn’t know during that time Romeo was a Silvio, or the next boss to boot, but that didn’t matter because the only thing Julian thought of when he gathered enough wits to think and trying to look around correctly?
He was still lost, and now some kid was going to tease him because his Italian was still sketchy at best and his accent was plain horrible. So the next best thing that came to his mind was to start crying and wail (which he did) - only to end up getting hauled to his feet and his hand gripped upon as he was dragged through the heavy crowds, the unfamiliar buildings, and the noisy parade that circled around him until they stopped in front of people that strangely reminded him of his guards. Apparently the boy he crashed into guided him to another group of guys in suits, though unfamiliar and can’t speak a word in Dutch as he tried to explain who he was looking for.
Queue the bad timing of Julian’s guards catching a glimpse of him and the boy and the neatly pressed men in suits - long story short, they thought Julian was being kidnapped and decided an ambush on another mafia was a good idea even when they weren’t armed. Julian doesn’t remember much of this - except that he was suddenly torn away from the boy he met and a lot of screaming, shouting, and scuffling between some men in the background and that he woke up to find his mom squeezing the life out of him the next day.
He couldn’t go to his school a month later, thanks to paranoia and surprise, surprise - the rival his family finally has in the mafia business. Not surprisingly, when he attended his first day of school, he found the same boy he met a month earlier in the same class and sitting right next to him like he choked on a mouth full of haring the same minute and only to find out his name and his whole family was his rival and that Julian somehow figured he wanted to follow this kid anywhere.
It didn’t help that when he came home, his mom started to read Shakespeare - Romeo and Juliet, no less - and he got this silly notion that the Romeo he met was his Romeo, and despite being a boy, he was Romeo’s Juliet. Somehow he went by that logic and as the years passed, his simple code of ‘following Romeo wherever he goes’ developed into ‘devoting my life to Romeo and follow him wherever he goes’ - even if it meant going to Japan and figure out why Romeo went there in the first place and how to read this crazy letter, Julian would follow.
Plus he can finally make some connections to the infamous yakuzas in the area and get away from his suddenly-there fiancé that no one bothered to tell him until earlier this year. Pity, she seems nice in the pictures.
