Had the third and final photo shoot for MenMode magazine today. It was the business wear fashion spread and I had booked one of my favourite male models, Taber Maier, for the job. He's half Thai and half white, from Los Angeles, and has been on the cover of Men's Health here twice. I had actually seen him in person about six months ago in Wisma Atria and approached him as I thought he should be a model (!) only to find that he's a full-time professional. I hadn't had a chance to use him until now and was glad to book him.
A photo shoot for a magazine spread is always an interesting experience, and a lot more work and a lot more tedious than most people imagine. The stylist had picked the outfits and while there was some nice stuff, there were also some awful pieces. We had to spend time sorting through them, and I banned the pleated pants at once. How uncle. Unfortunately, there was only one pair of flat front pants so we had no choice but to use some with pleats (arrgh!). There were frequent pauses to check lights, poses, hair, makeup and other details. But I hope the end result will be worth the effort, and I did get to pose with Taber at the end....
We finally wrapped up at 245 pm and I rushed back to the office. Worked till around 7pm, and then left with one of my writers, Wenjian, to go to Morton's for a dinner as we'd been invited by their PR agency. Morton's is one of my favourite restaurants in Singapore, they offer really terrific world-class food and service. It's really one of the most expensive restaurants here, with an average dinner for two easily costing about $500, but I think it's definitely worth it, especially if you consider that you could spend almost that much at far more mediocre restaurants.
I had told Wenjian that I love Morton's and when they invited him to dinner there as part of their "make friends with the press" efforts, he kindly invited me to join him. Smart guy - good way to keep the boss happy, haha. I would have liked to have had the dinner with him alone as we could talk more but the PR girl joined us. But she was good company and we all had a very nice time.We had a right royal feast with jumbo prawns, tuna tartare, chopped salad, rib eye steak, filet mignon, and their incredibly delicious crab cakes. We ended with two molten Valhorna chocolate cakes and an apple pie that we could barely finish. Finally left around 10 and I waddled from cab to home. Yumm. Tomorrow, the gym.
