October: the month of Tricks, Candy and...MIDTERMS

Oct 05, 2004 18:25

Happy October! To see how I measured up to my to-do list, I pasted last entry's contents into this one and slashed the ones that have been, to my relief, accomplished.

TO DO List 9/29-10/3 [bold indicates top priority]

-Read Economics homework assignments
-See Profesora Castro-Gerpe regarding in-class translation I got a B on
-STUDY STUDY STUDY ( Read more... )

Now I'm off to review basic grammar rules for a grammar quiz in English tomorrow.

[sarcasm]
Ooooh...watch out. Not sure if a Bucs Blade editor and grammatical guru can handle a quiz on basic rules.
[/sarcasm]

:-) Just kidding! Good luck, Denny--kick that quiz's butt! Rarrrgh.

I got 64 out of 76 possible points, so that was somewhat disappointing. I forgot a comma somewhere and then completely misread the directions on the section covering citations. I also messed up on a who/whom question. But, the highest in our class was 66, and it was curved, so I still got an A. :)

sociology stats naancy October 5 2004, 19:27:35 UTC
Hey Denny~

Those sociology stats are pretty interesting. Also, don't worry about english-I'm sure you'll be fine. The grading scale sounds a bit messed up...but whatever. S'all good. And it's too bad about your schedule for next semester-but if you're taking Calc, maybe I'll be in your class! I have to take it next semester...*not* looking forward to it!

You know, as far as those stats go, you also have to take into account the fact that poorer children tend to live in poorer neighborhoods with bad schools (like Detroit, as a convenient example), so they don't necessarily get an education that qualifies them to get into Michigan (unless they go to private schools, which cost lots of money). And that's a societal problem, not just at Michigan, which might have been the point to begin with, and I might just be going in circles. But anyway. I agree with Naancy about English- and if the papers are only worth 5 points each, you have nothing to worry about. Given your econ work ethic, I'd say you'll do fine on all your midterms ;). Good luck, though.

And by the way, basic grammar is common sense. It doesn't deserve to get reviewed. Ever.

How did you find out what's offered next semester?

I go to the UMich webpage, and then click on LS&A Course Guide in the bottom right hand corner. On the left, click on LS&A Bulletin. Click on the Chapter VI link. Now, all the classes are sorted by department, so choose one of interest. For example, I chose Political Science. Now each department, there should be a link called Undergraduate Courses. Click on that...so for a course you're interested in taking, in this case, we'll choose Poli Sci 140: Introduction to Comparative Politics. Some courses have Roman Numerals in italics...like I and II for Comparative. So then you know the class is offered first and second semester. Sometimes, though, the class doesn't say anything about when it's offered, so that's when you have to wait until the Winter 2004 Course Guide comes out, which my advisor said is around early November. Hope that helps!

this doesn't really relate to your entry, but... anonymous October 9 2004, 17:24:18 UTC
Dinner was way fun with you and Nicole the other night. We have to do that more often. I can't wait for more stories about N. I take far too much delight in them...you should see me right now, grinning ear to ear. Oh, I'm procrastinating. Physics lab....grr. The game was awesome today, was it not? Actually, we were really lousy, but it doesn't matter because we're the winners! Yay! Well, must be off. Keep plugging away at that to-do list. Someday we'll all get to the bottom of ours.

The game was great...I loved the last...two minutes. :)
And yay to people who plug away at their to-do lists.
Yes, we should have dinner more often.
See you around.
