Title: The Shadows Grow.
Pairings: Chad/Ryan; Chad/Taylor; Taylor/Kelsi; Troy/Gabriella; Zeke/Sharpay.
Summary: To the surprise of those around them, it is not Troy Bolton but Chad Danforth who becomes a world-renowned basketball star. His meteoric rise to fame and subsequent obscurity are accompanied by a failed marriage, a struggle against alcoholism and the presence of the mysterious man in the white hat, to whom Chad has always been inexplicably drawn.

Author's Notes: Based upon the German language musical Elisabeth, a fictionalized retelling of the life of Elisabeth of Bavaria (Empress of Austria and Queen of Hungary) that postulates that Elisabeth had been in love with Death throughout her life. The title of the fic and of its subsections as well as some lines come or are adapted from songs from the musical.
The lines about dancing are a mix from the one used in HSM 2 and Spike and Buffy’s interlude in the episode “Fool For Love” of “Buffy, The Vampire Slayer”. A couple of Troy’s lines come from the song “Scream” from HSM 3.
