I haven't written about my fish in a while (Molly's been hogging all the attention) so I will now.
All of the guppies I have now were born from my fish Dink who was the one that was born from the female I had that had apparently been whoring around the Petsmart tanks. So they're all about five months old and I had their dad (Gilbert) who I got over the summer and I don't know how old he was. Anyway, on New Year's Eve day one of my females had a baby (but I think it got eaten) and then she died the next day, so I figured that it was from the stress of having the baby. Then over the week three more of my females and Gilbert died, like one each day so I was pretty upset. When I pulled out the second dead female, Steph and I thought it looked like she had had internal bleeding so I think the boys may have been picking on the girls. So then I moved the two females I had left (Abigail and Amelia) to my tank upstairs and I took the two boys I had up there to the tank down here. Then the next day Abigail died and then the next day Gilbert died.
I think it may have been that my females were finally old enough to actually have babies (I know Dink had her first ones when she was about five months) and that stress killed them, or maybe the boys hurt them while they were having their babies. Either way Gilbert was my only male that died, and everyone else seems ok. Both my catfish are doing their bottom feeder thing and leaving everyone alone, and Marna, my beta, is fairly active and does well at ignoring everyone.
I got two balloon mollies the other day, and they're awkwardly shaped and pretty sweet. One's black and the other is white/silver. They're pretty active swimmers and fun to watch. Also, Sean says they aren't as sensitive as guppies so they should be ok even if I have guppy cancer in my water.
