Ah, Christmas. Hello there, old friend.
Next weekend, it transpires, I do not have to write exam papers, I do not have to do much of anything, it turns out, at all, beyond turn up to a few parties looking good. There will of course be revision. This goes without saying. And I think there will of course be some cooking of some description as it would clearly be RUDE and WRONG to turn up to Hallowe'en parties without a few cup cakes, brownies or possibly cheesecakes in tow.
However next weekend, the principal attraction will be the commencement of the Christmas cake. I don't often make Christmas cake. It's faffy and messy, and somehow it uses ALL the rum, but this year I feel like I wish to make some again.
There will be raisins and currants and cherries and prunes and mixed peel and all manner of other wonderful delicious-tastic spices and essences and RUM, all getting mish-mashed up together and plonked into kilner jars to steep for a few weeks. The house will smell of clove and ginger and chocolate, and the overwhelming sense that Christmas is ON THE WAY will take over.
Oh yes. Yes. I like making Christmas cake. :-)
