Seeing as how I finally have a free moment, now is as good as any for an update! This past weekend I went back home to NJ for my friends Gina & Terry's wedding. The wedding was (of course) beautiful, and it was wonderful to see friends I hadn't seen in years.
After the ceremony, Adrian, Jamie, Kellie, my brother, Jim, and I were all hanging around and we all decided to pre-game before the wedding. Adrian came back to my house, and we hung out and talked. I hadn't seen this guy in about 3 years, and it was as if no time had passed at all. He went into my kitchen and got himself a drink, sat down on our couch and turned on the TV. I started laughing and he said, "It's like nothing's changed! Your entire house, your backyard. Even your bathroom has the same wallpaper!"
Of course many things have changed, but my friends from high school and I are as comfortable around each other as we were 6 years ago. That was nice to see. I reconnected with some people while I was home. They met Jim and they gave their approval. :)
About meeting my friends, Jim said, "They were really excited to see you. You can tell that they really miss you while you're away."
Jim and I have been having a LOT of fun this summer. We've met each others families, and our friends all love that we're dating each other. (Yay!) Hopefully I'll have pictures from the wedding soon...
In other very random news, we had a box delivered to our house in D.C. It was a huge box sent to "Jet Creations, Inc." at my address. We let the box sit around for awhile. Then last night, Mei-Lein said "That's it! We're opening it!"
We opened up the box to find....
Inflatable jungle animals.
That's right. Three LIFE-SIZE inflatable jungle animals. Inside there was a cheetah, an alligator, and a zebra. We inflated the cheetah, but apparently the alligator & zebra were returned due to having holes in the plastic.
However, the cheetah proudly guards our living room. After much debate about what we should do with the animals, we have decided to have a Safari themed party (to which you are all invited of course).
Other ideas included:
* Putting the animals outside the three 2nd story windows overlooking the street in D.C.
* Placing the animals outside of our landlord's door, so they're all staring at him, when he opens the door in the morning.
* Putting the animals in a line for the Circulator Bus that stops by our house.
* Wrestling with the animals in our backyard very loudly where all our neighbors can see.
* Putting all three animals on Lincoln's lap at the Lincoln Memorial.
In continuing random news, that same day my friend Daniel sent me a text message that said, "The SWAT team came to my house." Seeing as how Daniel has an odd and random sense of humor and typically sends me text messages like this... I laughed and ignored it.
I got a call later that day confirming that the SWAT team had indeed visited his house. Daniel was making breakfast in the morning, getting ready to teach his 2nd grade class - when the SWAT team burst into his house with guns and shields - broke down his door, held him down to the ground, and proceeded to tear his house apart. They did the same to his roommate, Carl, and searched the house.
Hours later, the SWAT team explained that they were looking for drugs, as months prior they had been working on a sting operation to catch drug traffickers in their area. When I walked into Daniel's house, the place was still a complete wreck. Daniel is unsure as to whether or not the goverment will pay for the damages.
So while D.C. is an awesome town, it is very easy to be caught in an instance of mistaken identity. Whether you're being mistaken for drug lords or for an inflatable jungle animal company, whose products are impossible to inflate. Daniel and Carl, on the other hand, thank everyone for their support during this time, and ask that if anyone needs two clean, proper, male roommates to please - give them a call.
