I love NSLC and Chicago!
well i just got back from NSLC- thats National Student Leadership Conference- Inside the Arts in Chicago and there's only one word i can think of to describe it- FABulous! it exceeded all my expecations. i learned so much about myself and grew so much as a person and a leader. a special shoutout to my amazing T.A group and Walter my T.A. you are a "group of strangers I will never forget"- mel. its so amazing how we grew so close and shared all our emotions and feelings in only 5 days. Thank you all- skyler, paton, sarah, kaitlyn, korey, jason, elizabeth, elyse, j-dawg,kelly, josh, mel, amy, lauren, and of course Walter- for being so real and taking off your masks.
also thanks to my roomate Kori- i love you so much! it was so amazing how we grew so close and became like best friends.
i'm not gonna go into 2 much detail bout the trip cause i dont want to bore u all but i do have to talk about my T.A group's simulation. see each T.A group had to create an arts center, and include its mission statement, marketing, artitechure, schedule, and samples of performances. so as my crazy amazing group were shouting out ideas Walter said one of them was "gay as hell" then we thought, wait Gay Hell what a great idea! so we built off of that and we created Thats So Gay a haven for Gay and Lesbian artists and also a place to spread awareness to the community. our presentation was amazing. we had jason- this hilarious kid who acted gay all the time, sing this hilarious gay song at the beginiing and korey and i danced to it. then we dislpayed our gay water (made with H2homo!) and our pride and joy- a t-shirt with a tomato on it that says "shhh no one knows i'm a fruit!" then we ended on more serios notes with a song from rent and a monologue from the Laramie Project, a play about a kid who was brutally murdered because he was gay.
everyone loved our project and we were all so proud of ourselves. and best of all, out of 10 groups, we won 1 of 2 awards, Most Creative!. we so deserved it too. so now i must go unpack, do my laundry, and pack for vistory ahh my summers so busy but i love it! and then i'm seeing charlie and the chocolate factory with kelly today! soo excited
