I just experienced a four day intensive Lomi Lomi class. I have learned (skimmed the surface) of this traditional Hawaii rite of passage performed by the Shaman for hours at a time, fireside, on their people. The ritual includes a very intimate, sensual massage, full of long flowing passes on a minimally draped body. It is a right/left motion of varying rhythm and pressure. I was overwhelmed with touch as there was often 4, 6 or more hands full of nurturing, loving intention moving on me at once.

The days began with two hours of yoga followed by another hour full of meditation and coming together in circle. Then there came another 6 hours of performing this exhaustive massage where the practitioner is constantly moving around the body in a dancelike manner while hands glide over and under an oiled body. Reward was time on the table and the holy time of integration afterwards. I came home every night exhausted, ready to fall directly into bed where my sleep was full of vivid dreams.

The first day Tom told us that traditional Lomi practice often accelerates change and brings emotions and issues bubbling to the surface. Add to that the fact that we would be receiving constant touch for hours every day - and the experience is intensified. He wasn't kidding. I want to say it was life changing, but really I think the changehas already taken place in my heart - now I'm simply integrating them as I've been able to accept the fear and finally let it go. I've already known what the next step was, but I was afraid to take it as I didn't know what was after that. Now that's not an issue.

I now have a firm date at which I'm leaving my main job. I still have over 18 vacation days that I can't cash out so I'm taking two weeks to take a meandering drive out west stopping several places to visit friends along the way. So far I'm set for dates in Bisbee, AZ and Las Vegas, NV. Anyone else on the way out? The other days of vacation I'm using for 2 other CEU credits (paraffin treatments - for my arthritic clients and Lymphatic) and a few extended weekends. Beyond that, I have no clue what will happen.
