over on what was the 'old' pc stuff is happening... =grin=
replacing the hard disk seemed to take a matter of seconds =smile= and it sounds much better now - no more whirring and grinding =winky grin=
the disc i'd burnt last night didn't seem to work as an install disc. it was late, i was tired, the software was unfamiliar... i don't know if it was my error, or a software error here... but it isn't of immediate imprt, cos i fished out a gutsy gibbon live disc that a friend gave me late last year, and slipped that in.

i installed from the live disc, shortly after and while still poking around and exploring... restarted... and then not long had i got the system set up, did i notice the icon that spoke of updates and such... and i've ended up upgrading to hardy heron from where it's at. i figured i'm probalby going to want to, and i might as well start out there (and my other option was to choose some/all of (iirc) 283 updates for gg)... but it's rather tantalisiing in the meantime - all new and interesting, but not quite ready to play with =smile=
so, i'm eating what's left of the chocolate mousse mymouse and i made at the weekend, contemplating 'proper' food, and wondering if i'll manage to go relax and do somehting else while things do themselves on the other pc... and not stay up too late exploring when it's done in a couple/three hours.
