i enjoyed the
anarchist bookfair on saturday
it was quite overwhelming at times - so so many books and people, and sights and sounds!
i orientated myself and then ventured in to the mail hall. and the first corner i turned there were some friendly people, and we said 'hello', and i asked who they were, and they were
gertrude, yay! i had heard one of their songs on a compilation from an age ago[0], and it was good to find them and get up to date on what they're doing. and they seemed pleased to meet me and that i was familiar with them, had heard (of) them. let alone like them! *smile* they played me some of their music, and i acquired some to listen at home... and they are gigging to celebrate their 11th birthday soon[1] *grin*
i then looped around the hall looking at interesting things and people... and it was back in the same area as where gertrude were, tho on an opposite stall, that i found an interesting booklet entitled 'sexyouality: challenging the culture of monogamy' by merrick[2]. and it was also here that
sei531 found me! and it was good to see them and i hadn't realised it had been over a year since i last did! they rushed off to do organising things to do with a workshop, and i turned back to talk with merrick. that was interesting, and it turned out he was particularly excited about a 'new' article that he'd included in his updated 'sexyouality', and it was that very same article that'd caught my eye when i'd earlier scanned the contents page[3].
it was around this point that i decided to go sit outside for a while, cos it was hot and i was very nearly over-stimulated by all around me. and i thought i might wait outside for al, tho i wasn't really looking out for her very well, and she found me![4] *grin* we sauntered/trekked over to find the cafeteria, to chill out and catch up... and on the way 'round
khalinche found us![5], and she and i agreed to find each other later (relying on [4] *winky smile*). i was also briefly found by a friend-of-herbal-connection who remembered my sloe gin from a campfire a few years' back *grin*
al and i sauntered around the hall(s) again, looked at books and music and tshirts, and what people were up to. i played intermittent tag with
swami_leelaa (with the mutual acknowledgement that we'd find each other later)... and
khalinche found and lost us again! we also met carolyn, which made me chuckle, cos always[6] it's in the company of a mutual friend of ours tho without prior knowledge of the connection. she was also in the company of
kellanethics, so double mutual connection *winky smile* i had a really interesting conversation with a guy at the
NO:ID stall, who told me about the
st pauli football club *smile*
and then it was getting later, and all was done... except to attract
sei531 (who would take al home) and
swami_leelaa (who i would take home)... and so we went and hung out at a bookstall with an interesting and eclectic shelf, and waited for them to magically appear... and they did. and we went our diverse ways.
there was lots to interest and inspire[7] at the anarchist bookfair, and i enjoyed it.
