friday - 'trans with pride' conference

last week, at the weekend, and earlier in the week i was worrying i wouldn't be fit to attend the 'trans with pride' conference... but after lots of sleep on thursday, i found myself on a train bound for london town on friday morning *smile*

it was an interesting and inspiring day. the attendees were really diverse. the speakers informative and motivating. the people organising the day and the different strands worked really hard and we all achieved good things *smile*

the strand i was part of was focussing on health. it was less interactive than i had thought it would be. but was interesting and very informative also. i think we raised more questions than answers, but in part that was the aim - identifying/prioritising some of the areas that we need to find ways of influencing/changing for the better. these included choice; getting PCTs to look at the services that the GICs (they commission but often leave to get on wiht it) are providing and see whether they are both meeting the needs of clients and making best use of their budgets; influencing department of health guidelines which are the ones that carry legal weight rather than the GMC; easing the moving of people from private provision to public, and vice versa; and a very welcome focus on sexual health services and transgender people. time was limited on the day tho, and often felt pressured.

and the conference was held within the transfabulous arts festival - more about that to come...
