Tax 101 training...what an experience. For future reference I am never moving to South Bend because there's nothing to do there, half the places haven't discovered the miracle of accepting debit cards, and it is WAY too cold for me. I did get to eat lots of yummy food though (the white chocolate raspberry cheesecake at Francesco's was by far the best). Good thing it was all charged to the company because my budget doesn't do $80 dinners.
The training itself was okay for the most part. Some days were definitely better than others but it was basically school-style classroom learning 8 to 5 everyday. I learned lots of tax software and rules that I am going to definitely review today because there is no way I retained all that information from one go-through. I have no idea what to expect when I go into the office tomorrow morning to start actually doing the tax returns. I'm really nervous because this is my first time actually working out in the accounting field so its brand new and I really want to do a good job. This is the launching point for my career so I want to excel.
I met some awesome people while I was at training and it makes me very sad that none of them are actually in my Louisville office. It was so nice to have people to talk to, call me, and to hang out with on a regular basis. All our trips to random restaurants, bowling, getting lost ad ending up in Michigan, touring Notre Dame in the freezing cold/ rain & snow mix, playing Sudoku and other randomness in "our corner" in the back of the classroom...good times in South Bend. I wish I still had that with my friends here...how times change.
Although I did miss my family while I was there, this was a good experience for me. It was great to be out on my own doing what I wanted and when I wanted without having to answer to anyone. It was my first 2-week taste of independence. I feel like I'm finally ready to take on my future without being 100% terrified. A matter of fact I feel a lot of changes happening for the better but that's another entry for another day.
