The facts are this.

Years ago, there was a disease that moved through the air called the Atropos virus. The death you see around you? Is a result of it. In people, the effects were that you'd have a cold, initially, but in the end of two weeks, your organs would fail. This killed out what seems to be almost all of the native population of this world.

There was a second outbreak, some months ago, and the scientists distributed a vaccine, effectively halting another death of all life.

As for the forest. It's one of the most dangerous parts of this world. Particularly the Dementors, who will try to eat your soul.

It must be because of the virus. Why is everyone mentioning 'scientists', I don't know what they are!

Scientists are people who try to work out how things work, for whatever reasons. Some are destructive. Others, constructive.

The virus has been neutralized. You won't become a demon.

At least, you will not die by the virus' hands. The monsters are another matter, if you do not avoid them.

As it is, you don't want to speak to humans. Very well. Yorda is the one in charge of the plants and fruit. She is not human. I can give you directions.

I will find my own food. If I can't, I would rather starve to death.

You will not die of starvation. The beasts will get to you first, should you feel confident enough to go into the forest.

Besides which, death is not permanent. You'll be brought back to life.

And you also don't know which animals are safe to eat, yet.

I have been staying in the forest for well over a day. Even if I have to fight constantly, I have been here on the edge--

Your emotions are quite out in the open. That attracts the Dementors. They cannot be killed, and simply being around them makes you weak. That you haven't been killed yet is of no skill of yours - it's pure luck.

Not permanent. They'll bring you back to life.

Even then; can you manage to kill one of these beasts for meat? And in the time it takes to kill one, keep yourself from being killed in the oncoming swarm? These things are not blind, stupid, or slow.

You tell me not to underestimate you. I think it's much more pertinent that you do not overestimate yourself.
