Longshot

Longshot is an artificial being from "Mojoworld," created to be a slave to the Spineless Ones, the rulers of that world. His creator, Arize, added all kinds of genetic goodies to him.

He is mostly human-like, but has four fingers on each hand, a hollow skeleton, two hearts, and leathery skin. He is very agile, and surprisingly strong and resilient. He also has a minor healing power. His secondary power is that of object reading. By holding an object, he can see its history. His major power is luck. As long as his motives are pure, his luck is incredible. He uses throwing spikes as a weapon. His hair is modeled after a Kajagoogoo music video, co-creator Art Adams having reasoned at the time that it was a haircut no other superhero had.

He also has the power, possibly an offshoot of his luck, to make women become deeply infatuated with him. This affects most women he meets. Among the X-Men and New Mutants, Rogue, Kitty, Psylocke, and Magik seem to be the most strongly effected. Initially he was to be a romantic foil for Colossus, with the two of them joining Kitty in Excalibur. Instead, he ended up being in a love triangle between Rogue and Dazzler. Rogue couldn't get near him, though, and Dazzler quickly starts sleeping with him. They kind of have a falling out before that team dissolves, though. Though the two are often paired up, I think the idea was that Dazzler was using him to comfort herself, to put her anxiety about joining the X-Men at ease. That is to say that she was taking advantage of his naivete to relieve her stress. Kind of dodgy, but kind of a realistic character trait, really, that you don't see too often.

He goes through the Longshot mini-series with amnesia, and after his mini-series, he next appears in X-Men with amnesia, apparently having failed his rebellion on Mojoworld. His story is kind of lost, but he was a child-like presence in X-Men, and was very popular during those years.

It is implied that he has a wife and children, but this is never followed up. It is also implied that Spiral loves him. Fabian Nicieza wrote that Spiral was Ricochet Rita, transformed into Spiral and forced to go back in time and set the whole thing in emotion in an endless loop.
