I feel like most of the stuff I liked as a kid has held up pretty well, but some things just weren't good at all...

I recall when I was a kid, I was really into the Dragon's Lair cartoon. I had no idea there was a video game. It was important to my development as a lover of fantasy. My first D&D character was named George the Brave after my cousin wouldn't let me name him Dirk the Daring. So, I watched an episode on YouTube...

Good God, it did not hold up at all. I mean, cartoons were -- let's face it -- often pretty darn bad in the 80's, but this show was just awful. I'm not sure what it was that appealed to me. Then again, it did tickle something deep in my brain... It must have influenced my personal subconscious ideas of what fantasy should be, along with the Dungeons & Dragons cartoon.

Did any of you have a weird, semi-obscure show or something that was an influence on you?

On a semi-related note, weird fast food advertisements of yore:

Remember those humorous Burger King ads from the last decade? (What do you call the first decade of the 21st century?) Well, they were sort of parodies of some older ads when they tried to use characters in their ads the way McDonalds did. This is one result:

I have a Dr. Seuss book somewhere with a Duke of Doubt sticker in it, I think. It troubles me.

I can see what they were going for, but man, that was really disturbing. I had a dream after reading about Satanists where guys in black robes with the face of that moon man but big ol' cleft chins menaced me. It wasn't really a nightmare, though, since I taunted them.
