I'm finally watching a democratic debate. First off, I want to say how truly amazing it is to see a minority and a woman as the sole candidates at a debate. Which isn't to say that Edwards was not an incredibly viable candidate -- it's just so...unusual. Which is really wrong, in this day and age, if you think about it.
Now, I'm going to say something that's totally not trendy at all, but so be it:
I'm actually totally into Hillary Clinton.
There, I said it. I like Obama, too, but before viewing a debate the only lens I had was the media, and sadly they really do emphasize the Uppity Woman Flaws more than anything else about Clinton. Watching the debate and reading the Times live blog, it's very clear how her statements are inappropriately taken out of context. I still want her to state for the record how this will not be a second Bill White House. However, I am pleasantly surprised.
It's a relief, actually. I wanted to have a reason beyond what seemed sometimes to be nothing more than a sense of kindred.
You know what else is a relief? That we are not choosing the lesser of two evils. So refreshing.
I've now blogged twice in one day. What is this, 2003 again?
ETA: The debate is now over. Holy shit, we have two awesome candidates that are articulate and intelligent and driven and (dare I say it) witty. There was none of the sniping I was led to expect. We will have an excellent candidate whoever wins. Is this even possible?
Or will we, the Democrats, somehow let this slip? God, the hope and the fear are too much -- fast forward to November, I wanna see how this ends!
