Some of the regulars . . .

I finished repotting all the orchids yesterday. I had more than I thought--28 in all! The plant hut might have to be renamed the orchid hut. It is mostly all orchids now, plus three nepenthes, six hoyas, a couple succulents and two window boxes with annuals in them. I used to have all my orchids in pots, but this year I started putting a lot of them in these wooden boxes with the wire hangers. I never thought I would like them better than the pots, but I think I do. I used at least 10 bags of orchid bark, and I think I filled a whole garbage bag with the old potting medium and so many of the old roots that I cut off. I’m anxious to see how long before they start getting new flower spikes. If we have another mild winter here I won’t have to take them in. They don’t like it below 50 degrees, but I’ve left them unprotected as low as 40 and they survived just fine.

Here you can see the row of pots that I originally started with plus a few others.

Next I’m going to spruce up the wheelbarrow then the shepherd’s hooks. And when Pete’s shoulder is healed enough, we will start out front of the house where Pete took out the hedges. I’m starting to lay out a design for what I want to do, but it is going to be as maintenance free as I can make it.

I sat outside this morning and watched as some of the regulars visited

Not a common sight: These two had just left the feeder and were eating their seed very close to each other before returning for another . . .
