Now I’m working on a free hanging window panel. I drew the design a few weeks ago, but this is the first time I’ve had a chance to get it laid out and start cutting glass. I got all the background glass cut out yesterday and today, and am starting on the toucans now. It is going to be an outdoor sign hung up under a back yard tiki hut like bar in a protected area . The name on the sign is “Papa’s and Beer.”
I know, strange name, but his grandkids call him papa, and the guy loves beer. His wife likes cobalt blue, so the letters will be that color. At first he wanted just the words and a bottle or can of beer worked in somewhere. I kind of vetoed that idea real quick and told him I could come up with a much more attractive design and he didn’t argue. When I showed him the design I’d drawn and the colors I picked out, he was tickled to pieces over the toucans. I told him one was him and one was his wife, and they could figure out which one was which… mouth open and mouth closed. They both got a laugh out of that. I normally wouldn’t joke like that with someone I’d just met, but I’ve known this couple for years and knew they wouldn’t mind.
Another day or so and I’ll have it all cut out and I’ll show another photo of it.
