Remember the Fancy Fish window I recently hung up in my bathroom window? Well, sometime last night after I went to bed one of the hooks somehow worked its way out of the overhead sill, then the weight of it hanging there by one hook pulled the other one out and it fell. After I got up this morning, I went into the bathroom for a while, left and came back ...twice, and I still hadn’t even noticed it, but I did think something was out of whack in there, just couldn’t put my finger on it. I actually kept looking at the window where it hung trying to figure out what was wrong, then I guess my brain started waking up and I realized the window was empty and the piece was on the floor instead of hanging up in the window.

This is the first time I have ever had a window fall. I first thought that I would repair it, but I soon discovered the frame was flat where it landed and more than 10 pieces of glass broke, including the beautiful BE ring mottled glass I used for the fish. When a window is damaged this much, it just isn’t worth the time and labor spent to repair it. Plus when a frame is bent, it is almost impossible to get the kink out of the zinc so it is perfectly round again. If a client brought me this to repair, I would say I couldn't guarantee the frame, but I would replace the broken glass. I was sick about it for awhile, but no use “crying over spilt milk,” so I will probably just put it out to the curb.

Here is my new bathroom window...quite a large and detailed one I had at the gallery that never sold. The more detail (smaller pieces of glass and more solder) the heavier it is, so Pete really reinforced the hanging hooks for me and I feel confident it is safe.
