zebra longwing . . .

I’m almost done foiling the first window and I’ll probably start soldering Monday or Tuesday. We are preparing for Isaac around here. We’re pretty sure we will get lots of rain (they are predicting anywhere from 10-20 inches) and some pretty heavy winds, but it is hard to say exactly until it gets a bit closer. By tomorrow we will know more, I think. We will spend some time out in the yard tomorrow securing things and taking down all the hanging pots or anything that could be a projectile. It has not rained here now for two whole days and none is predicted for today either. It is beautiful out and the humidity is low this morning and a light breeze is blowing. It feels almost like an autumn day, but I know better. That season for us won’t get here for a few more months at least.

Something is wrong with Pete’s laptop. He hasn’t been able to get on the internet all week-whenever he tries, it says DNS error. Mine is fine. Joe came over Thursday night and tried everything he could think of, then finally called Verizon. After talking to a super nice guy there and trying more stuff for about an hour, V-guy determined it might be the router and they are sending us a new one. It is supposed to arrive today and then Joe is coming back over. Pete and I are clueless when it comes to computer stuff.

School started this past Monday-the year is flying by. Maria is the only grandchild I’ve got left in school and she is in the 10th grade this year.

I went down to see Puff yesterday at the park. They got a nice big used aquarium for him and he seems to really enjoy it and is finally starting to try a few veggies instead of just crickets. They put a large shallow bowl in with him and he seems to like the water a lot. He loves being held and petted, such a sweet dragon.

My mom has rallied around again. Her hip replacement and collarbone have healed now. Her sugar is high and she has a low grade fever a lot of the time. I’ve accepted and understand that she is not going to get any better, but for whatever reason, she is not ready to leave us yet. She is hardly eating or drinking anymore, and when she does, her body does not seem able to handle it and most times comes back up right away. She has lost more weight and ML says she is light as a feather.

I had a most wonderful dream about her a few nights ago. I was dreaming about a bunch of other stuff and all of a sudden she appeared to me at the end of my dream. She walked right in front of me. She was in her 60s, her hair was black with loose curls, and wearing a blue & white print blouse, long pants, and tan canvas shoes. She had a black pocketbook over her arm. All this is so familiar and I especially remember this blouse so well. She looked just like she used to look when she was getting ready to go to town shopping. This part of my dream was bright and colorful and sharp. Sometimes my dreams are like I’m in a fog and things are kind of dark and I have to squint to see things. But this one was not. She stood there in front of me for several minutes, it seemed, smiling and smiling. I shouted “Mom!” over and over again like I was trying to get her attention and then I was suddenly awake. I didn’t want to wake up-I wanted to stay in my dream, but my dream just would not continue on. I see the dream image of her in my mind all the time now.

Well, UPS just brought the router package, so it’s time to go.

Yesterday when I was down at the park, I saw and was able to photograph my very first Zebra Longwing Butterfly. In 1996 the Zebra Longwing was proclaimed the official Florida State butterfly. I was just standing there looking at something else in the bushes and suddenly there it was! What a beauty! It had at least a four-inch wingspan!
