Last night the judging was harsh. The person who was critiquing used the numbers between 10 and 15 for his scores. Anything below 10 was considered pretty bad. I got two 10s and two 11s on my four submissions. Most all the others were 10, 11 & 12, and two 14s. He did say at the end, this was just his opinion, so don’t take too hard. I ended up pulling my two 10s from the entry, as did several others.

None of this really made me feel that badly, but instead just gave me the incentive to try harder and improve on some things. I noted everything he said about mine and the others, and the comments were good ones. I learn a lot just listening to the critiques, even though I don’t always agree with everything, most of it makes sense.

We've got "big time plumbing problems" here today and the plumber is due here soon.

I got up early this morning and drove out towards the island. I pulled over at a little clearing where I could see a small stretch of beach and water. It looked so peaceful and no one else was there except me and a few birds. So, guess what else is behind the cut.

First thing I noticed was this branch dangling overhead, like it was hanging from a thread and blowing in the breeze . . .

Young Cormorant . . .

Far down at the end of the cove there was a Great Blue, then a couple gulls joined him and finally an egret. The Great Blue had caught a fish and his friends wanted some of it, too.

Mostly everything of interest was pretty far away and I went back to the car and put my long lens on.
