mermaid

Being away from my LJ for so long, it was hard to get back in the habit of posting again, but here I am and here I go. I couldn’t believe the last post I made was September 27th!

Well, the show is over! I’ve spent so much time making little stained glass items and getting my photos ready, that I’ve had little time for much else. It is a tremendous amount of work and when I was setting up and tearing down; I kept thinking “how do these people do this week after week all year long!” What a life that must be - the life on the “craft show circuit.” Not the life for me that’s for sure.

I met and talked to so many really nice people, got to spend the day with my daughters, but selling stuff . . . well, I didn’t do very well, selling only three prints and 5 stained glass pieces. But I’m trying to have a positive attitude . . . I’ll have plenty of things to put in the gallery as things sell there, and I won’t have too much preparation for the 2-day show in December. I’m just glad it is over and I can have my life back for awhile. The weather is turning cooler and I’m really anxious to get back out there for my walks and bike rides and start photographing again!

I spent yesterday helping my friend at her church get started on painting an underwater mural in one of the Sunday school classrooms. This morning I started on the mermaid window. I have about two and a half weeks to finish it, but because I had the design already drawn and the glass selected and bought, that was half the battle. Behind the cut is the design I drew and the glass we selected.

The window is 48" long by 10" high. It will go into a transom over the front door of a home on Anna Maria Island. Usually my mermaids are up and down, so this one presented me with a challenge drawing something to fit this space. She wanted simple, and I was happy to oblige with only about 150 pieces to cut.

Here's are the glasses: The camera and poor lighting really don't show the true colors very well.
This one is the mermaid body and tail. It is a beautiful blue/green/aqua ring mottled BE glass.

And here is the rest of the color pallet:
from left to right:
skin, hair, sand, clear background, little fishes (she wanted them purple and yellow), seaweeds, bubbles & an abalone shell I cut for her pendant
