Here’s my little sundown adventure from last night.
Wood Ducks are my favorites of all the ducks. Right now, there are three males and one female living at the pond. They are shy and mostly stay in their little manmade houses the park built for them out over the water. This is for protection from a lot of their natural predators on land. But, I am thinking now that those prehistoric, mean, soft-shelled turtles are a danger to them, too. The ponds are full of them!
Last night as I walked to the back pond, I didn’t see anybody swimming, but suddenly this ball of feathers literally burst out of the little hole in the duck house, like it was shot from a cannon, and flew over and landed in the water right where I was standing.
I took a few pictures and slowly walked closer before he took off. I got several shots as he was flying away, but I never noticed until I got home and downloaded the pictures . . .
that he only had one foot!
