We went to the Laurel Landfill in Venice the other day to see and photograph the eagles, but the nest was empty. I have a feeling the two baby eagles have fledged and have all probably migrated north for the summer.
Landfills are a great place to find and photograph lots of different birds. There are two landfills around here that we go to and there is always so much action at them.
So . . . no eagles that day, but just driving around the acres of roads there we spotted a family of sandhill cranes ~~ two adults and a little one. Well, not so little anymore ~~ almost as big as the parents, but without the striking red head yet. We parked off the road and followed them through the fields for awhile.
Lots more pictures
As we were leaving we spotted this red shouldered hawk on a wire above us . . .
And this sign inspected and approved by someone who couldn't spell . . .
And drove by this dragonfly on a barbed wire on the way out the gate . . .
