bromiliads afire . . .

I feel like I'm back among the living. I've been sick with the flu since Sunday evening and finally after three days of aching joints, chills, fever, and being so tired, I am finally feeling better today.

Right before sunset tonight I went down to the park just to get out of the house and walk around in the fresh air for a little while. It was so buggy, I didn't stay long. Between the mosquitoes, the gnats, the no-see-ums and a couple of giant stinging flies of some kind, I didn't stay long. It was good to just get out and I got a few pictures.

Out by the back pond there was a mockingbird sitting high up in a spruce tree singing his heart out. I think he was imitating every sound he had ever heard. I was looking right at him, and I swear there was a bullfrog sound coming from his throat. They are one of my favorite birds, and I sometimes hear them singing long into the night.

(these next two are for you, Tracy)

Bromiliads on fire . . .

A big bed of recently planted sunflowers just starting to bloom.

I could see there wasn't going to be much light left and I quickly went out to the front pond. The sun was becoming a red ball in the sky. I bent down low and took this picture of the pink lotus with the sun hitting the water.

Within a moment everything was getting darker and darker . . .

There really wasn't much of any sunset tonight, just a big red ball going down . . .
