One of my neighbors recently trimmed some of his large trees. He called me over afterwards and proudly offered me two limbs he had cut and saved with me in mind, saying he knew I would be able to do something creative with them. I was only able to use one of them. I wish the one with all the spreading branches (on the right) had a longer trunk on it, because I really liked all the branches, but I chose to use the other one.
Pete dug a hole between the green bench and birdbath and planted it about a foot in the ground inside a piece of PVC pipe for more stability.
I looked at it for several days, trying to think what I would do with it. I painted it with some leftover white and tan spray paint trying to get inspired. I wanted something light, so it would stand out against all the greenery.
Then I figured I would hang things from the branches. But what? I finally decided to fuse various scrap pieces of glass into abstract shapes.
After I had made about 10 different shapes, one of them being a star, which I really liked, I decided to make all stars, different colors and sizes. And it was then, that I named it “STAR TREE.”
They were so easy. For each star, I just cut 10 narrow strips from an inch to about an inch and a half long, and carefully laid them in the configuration of a star, overlapping inside and outside points. These are ready to go in the kiln.
I took tiny eye hooks and screwed them into the tree, then used fishing filiment to hang them.
That yellow one is definitely the standout STAR of the tree! It just glows like it's on fire when the sun hits it just right.
