lucky enough to miss

At the moment I am feeling a bit homesick. After spending time with my family, I always feel sad to say goodbye. But you know, I am actually blessed to be feeling this! It is a very precious thing to have people that you love and love you back. It is worth some sadness.

And now, the recap!

I left work at 3:30 on Thursday and drove to Campbelltown. I got there about 5:30 and we set off for Jindabyne at 6, we being Andrew, Peter, Peta and I. We got there at about 11, and the cabin that we shared was pretty darn good... it had a bathroom! I was expecting less! Peter and I shared the bunk-room, Peta took the double bed (we don't know how she managed that!) and Andrew had the pull-out. I didn't sleep too well cause I was cold, but never mind. The next morning we went hunting for breakfast and found it difficult to track down. After we'd eaten and bought some extra supplies, off we drove to Thredbo.

From Thredbo we took the chairlift up, and started walking at 11. It seemed like we were really behind schedule so I hustled people... but then it turned out we'd made great time! Then I calmed down. We got to the top of Kosioszko (sp?) at about 12:30.

It's kind of barren and bleak up there. There had been flowers a few weeks ago but the sun killed them so there were papery husks of flowers instead. Lots of grass and rocks. It was good weather, sunny with a cool breeze. We didn't even realise which mountain was Kosi cause they all seem about the same... and it turns out that Kosi isn't even craggy or anything... just a hill! LOL! It's about 2228 metres high or something... Everest is more like 8000. Australia is kind of flat. ;p

But when we got there we all took a turn in climbing the geographical marker (we were a bit rowdy, much to the stares of the other tourists). So for a couple of minutes I was the highest (and therefore in a way the tallest) person in Australia. That's an entire continent! Yay!

So we had lunch, and then Peter, Luke and Peta set off for their two nights of hiking and camping, and Andrew and I headed back to Thredbo. Poor Andrew; I'm a bit of a brisk walker even when I don't need to be. I got to taste some mountain water. Then I drove us from Thredbo to past Canberra and Andrew got us to Campbelltown. Then at my suggestion we shared the brownie sundaes at Lonestar that I adore (isn't dessert always my idea?) and I drove back to Lane Cove.

Then I spent an hour in the shower cleaning myself up for Renee's 21st. Next morning I cleaned a little and bought the paper while I waited for my family to pick me up. Renee's party was at a club overlooking Bondi Beach, and the dresscode was 'summer dresses' but I wore stockings cause my legs are still all bruised from bouldering last weekend. Anyway, that was one of those gatherings where the only people you know are your family so Steph and I just chilled together. Great speeches! Afterwards my parents drove around showing us all their old university haunts. Went to a cheap pasta place for dinner, and watched The Patriot on TV. Took us awhile to work out the difference between the American Civil War and war of independence. Well, it's not my country, really it's amazing we know how many wars there's been. ;p

This morning we got pancakes for breakfast, and my sister and I looked around for work shirts for me (number found = ZERO) before my sister took my car back to Port Macquarie. I'll see it again in a few weeks... hopefully we will get a better quote in Port. ;p

And now...

I just deleted almost 4 gig of MP3s. All my 'western' music is gone. I figure if I was going to buy those songs I had every chance and it's obviously not going to happen. I'm making a list of albums I want for sure. Don't know what to do about all the little random Chinese songs I have. And I have some songs that I really like that I would be happy to buy but the albums don't seem to be on sale anymore! What to do?

Anyway, as always, a work in progress. ;p
