Today my Dad cancelled a visit with us because his back went out on him. He phoned us just before a friend drove Dad to his chiropractor. This doctor has helped my father with his back before, and my father has a lot of faith in him.
My dad is in his late 80's, and he has told us that age has begun to lay a heavier hand on him in recent years, sapping his muscle tone and stamina. He has valued being independent and proud of being healthier than his peers. Five years ago I mentioned that he should make plans for what to do if he took a sudden downturn in health. Then he was dismissive of such planning - I hope he's more open to considering his options now.
Our house isn't big enough to house him, and he likes to live where he does because the cost of living is cheaper in his state and town that it is in California where we live. Of course, that was what he said years ago.
It time we had a talk with him about his future and what we can do for him.
