Fellow Scriptwriters,
Today marks the first day of the rest of the month. Hooray! Welcome to the fifth year of Script Frenzy! Writers around the world have one thing in common today: we’ve all started writing our scripts. I love that. I see a montage of fingers typing on keyboards, pens rolling across paper, various writers’ faces flashing across the screen. It’s so exciting! It looks similar to the final scene of Cinema Paradiso, but without the kissing.
If you’re a first-time scriptwriter, don’t worry! We’ve all grown up watching movies, reading books, sharing stories with friends, and family, right? Inside each and every one of us there lives a storyteller at heart, and that’s what we all have in common.
To write 100 pages by April 30, you’ll need to write 3.3 pages a day. That’s it. See it’s already manageable, and once you find your writing stride, your creative process will take over, and you’ll be astonished by what you’re putting down on the page. Some days you’ll feel like the words are gems of pure delight, other days you’ll want to scream because the words feel stuck or jumbled. That’s all a natural part of the Frenzy.
This weekend will be the first of the Frenzy, and if you haven’t already done so, take some time on Saturday to think about your story. How does it end? It really helps to know where you’re headed, so take a few moments to outline your script. It will save you time and heartache.
Sometime on Sunday, you’ll have completed about 10 pages! How amazing is that? Plus, I’ll be right there with you, sipping multiple soy lattes and munching on dark chocolate between keystrokes.
I’m so excited to be doing this with you I can hardly stand it!
All right enough talk let’s get cracking! We’ve got some pages to write.
