Busy weekend, busy life

We had a birthday party this weekend for one of E's best friends from preschool. They get along wonderfully and we love his parents. We talked about maybe taking a vacation with them to CA. That would be a blast.

Oh and Saturday morning E decided he was going to ride a 2 wheeler, and he did. He still needs help starting, but by Sunday evening he was doing u-turns in the street, and able to turn the corner. Unfortunately the bike he has is too heavy for him and so he was borrowing the neighbor's old bike to learn. It looks like we need to get the smaller bike we took to my parent's house back so he can ride that until he is big enough for the other bike. (Likely next summer) There was one accident where his buddy S across the street was helping him get started but let go before E was balanced and so he fell on his knees. For about 30 minutes he swore he was NEVER going to ride that bike again. He got over it.

I also tried a new recipe for dinner last night. I wasn't sure if I was going to have friends over or not so picked something that would make plenty. Cilantro Rice with Chicken, from my All New Complete Cooking Light Cookbook. E ended up inviting 2 kids from the neighborhood to stay for dinner (without asking first) luckily my friends didn't come over and we had plenty. The older girl loved it and wanted a copy to take home with her. Since she loved it so much E ate it without any complaining at all, as did her little brother. I wish there was more I could do to help them. It is a single mom with 5 kids living with her parents. They don't have much money at all, so when the boy comes over to play I make sure he gets a snack and won't send them away at dinner time unless I just don't have enough money. He is the kid E had a sleep over here with earlier this month. J is a year older than E and in 1st grade, his sister is in 5th.

So the house just felt full the whole time this weekend.

Now I'm off to the vet because my oldest kitty is throwing up all the time right now and we want to make sure it isn't anything bad.

Oh and if anyone has ideas on activities for a Kindy "Fall Festival" party on Oct 31st. I'd love to hear them. I'm room mother for E's class. We have a half hour for the party.
