Prologue

I hold Jenson down as he struggles beneath me. The entire hallway smells like blood, and in my peripheral vision I can see Koori still fighting off the other goons. Kour is roaring through me, demanding to be set free so he can finally end this, but I hold him back for the most part. I’m half changed as it is, my teeth elongated into wicked fangs and my eyes completely black. Fur is starting to sprout on random parts of my body, but I can’t pay attention to that right now. All of my focus has to be on the man I’m tussling with. He’s trying to throw me, and he’s a lot bigger than I am. Still, with Kour as my other half, I have enough strength to keep him pinned. He’s snarling and spitting at me, half changed just like I am. He’s cocky-he thinks he can take me as he is. I open my mouth wide, snarling, and-
Wait, why am I starting off here? That’s so near the end of this story, by far. You won’t understand it unless you hear everything else first. That’s how stories work, isn’t it? I’m getting too ahead of myself, as usual. Always eager to race to the end, that’s me. Koori sometimes likes to tease me, because I’m so impatient that I’ll sometimes skip to the end of the book, like I just did, before I go back and read through it. There’s a whole lot you have to learn about this particular story, though, before I can just skip to the end. That’s how this has to work.

I know, I know, why can’t I just get on with it? Believe me, I wish I could. But if you’re going to know everything, then I have to start at the beginning. This is just the prologue, too. There’s a whole wide space of words between now and then. I know this prologue is short, but that’s because, well, it’s a prologue. Not all of them are super-duper long, you know. Especially when the one telling the story is an impatient little squirt. That’s me, through and through. So now that you’ve read this, I hope you’re still interested in hearing all of it. It’s quite a tale, if I do say so myself. Fraught with danger, and death, and learning how to grow into what you’re supposed to be. I know that may not make much sense now, but believe me, it all will in the end. So if you’re ready for this ride, you’d better buckle up, because it’s going to be a bumpy one.

I know, that was lame, but hey, give me some credit. I gave you a sneak peek at the ending already, so can’t you wait to see what else I have in store for you? It’s worth it, I promise.

plot, this all came from a dream, prologue, original characters, deep feels
